Traditionally, students have demonstrated their understanding and analysis of a text or topic through tests and essays. However, have you seen other teachers’ social media posts about One Pagers or Hexagons and weren’t sure how to introduce them to students? Have you wanted to include more strategies that use visual texts? Have you found text sets online, but the articles weren’t exactly what you needed? This workshop will include demonstrations, followed by time for participants to practice each strategy and create samples specific to their own texts. We will use one shared text for all demonstrations, but teachers should also bring a text that they teach along with a computer. The presenter is an English teacher, but has years of experience working with teachers across the curriculum through the Eastern Illinois Writing Project, so all content area teachers are welcome.
A catered lunch will be included.
